Day 11: From Paris, TX to Hot Springs, AR

Tuesday, September 7

From Paris, we took US 82 to Detroit, TX and then TX 37 to Idabel, Oklahoma, then US 258 to Broken Bow, and then followed the Talimena Scenic Drive across the Ouachita National Forest into Arkansas.

Again, the landscape had changed. After the "big expand of nothing" of Texas we now were amidst forests and trees on hilly grounds.

Following Talimena Drive, we visited Rich Mountain Lookout, an old fire tower in Arkansas

The lookout was first set up in 1907. In 1952 the current 58-foot steel tower was put in place. We continued to Mena, went on AR 88 and US 270 to Hot Springs. In Hot Springs, we found a KOA campsite. Expensive, but with an interesting neighborhood.
